🧠 Memory Aid: Remembering the Stages of Mitosis
The IPMAT Mnemonic
Use IPMAT to remember the order of stages:
- I — Interphase (preparation: grow and copy DNA)
- P — Prophase (chromosomes condense, nuclear envelope breaks down)
- M — Metaphase (chromosomes move to the Middle)
- A — Anaphase (chromatids pulled Apart to opposite poles)
- T — Telophase (Two new nuclei form)
Sentence to help you remember: "I Picked My Apples Today"
Or: "I Passed My A-Level Test!"
Tip for Metaphase: "M for Middle" — chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.
Tip for Anaphase: "A for Apart" — chromatids are pulled apart.
Tip for Telophase: "T for Two" — two new nuclei are formed.
