Synapses: The Key to Communication
Synapses are tiny gaps between two neurones that allow them to communicate with each other. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers released by the sending neurone, which bind to receptors on the receiving neurone.
There are many types of neurotransmitters, including:
- Norepinephrine: involved in attention and arousal
- Dopamine: involved in reward and motivation
- Acetylcholine: involved in muscle contraction and memory formation
