AQA GCSE English Literature (specification 8702) is a closed-book exam. That has been the case since 2019. Your child walks into the exam hall with nothing: no texts, no notes, no quotation sheets. Everything they need must be in their memory.
The specification splits into two papers. Paper 1 covers Shakespeare and a 19th-century novel, and runs for 1 hour 45 minutes. Paper 2 covers a modern prose or drama text, the Power and Conflict poetry cluster, and an unseen poem, and runs for 2 hours 15 minutes. Both are sat at the end of Year 11.
