Spanish GCSE under the new AQA 8692 specification — first exams June 2026 — is assessed across four papers, each worth 25% of the final grade: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. There is no coursework and no controlled assessment. Everything hangs on what your child does in those exam rooms.
The defined vocabulary list sits at around 1,700 words at Higher tier and 1,200 at Foundation. That sounds manageable until you realise AQA expects students to recognise inflected forms derived from those headwords — so knowing 'hablar' is not enough if you freeze when you see 'hablaban' in a reading paper.
