💀 The Bonus Army Disaster (June 1932)

This single event destroyed Hoover's reputation:

  • 20,000 WW1 veterans marched to Washington asking for early payment of bonus promised for 1945
  • Camped near Capitol with families in "Hooverville" conditions
  • Hoover sent in the army under General MacArthur
  • Tanks and tear gas used against American veterans and their families
  • Newspapers showed shocking images — destroyed any remaining support for Hoover
