📖 Setting the Scene

In his first 100 days in office, FDR launched a whirlwind of action that changed America forever. He created a alphabet soup of agencies — CCC, AAA, TVA, NRA, WPA — each designed to tackle a different problem. Some put people directly to work. Some reformed the banking system. Some supported farmers. For the first time, the federal government took responsibility for Americans' welfare. The New Deal didn't end the Depression — that took World War II — but it saved millions from starvation and changed what Americans expected from their government.
