AQA Higher listening often tests whether students can infer a speaker's attitude, problem, or feeling from what they say indirectly. The answer is never said outright — you must read between the lines.

❌ Common error: Hearing ¡Qué bien, si insistes! and marking it as enthusiastic agreement

✅ Correct: This is RELUCTANT agreement — ¡Qué bien, si insistes! = "well, OK, if you insist." Tone and context matter, not just the words.

Why it costs marks: At Higher, AQA deliberately uses polite-sounding language to mask reluctance. The exclamation ¡Qué bien! can be sarcastic — always weigh tone and what prompted the comment.

❌ Common error: Hearing No tengo tiempo, no tengo dinero and selecting "two separate problems"

✅ Correct: The speaker is implying a single overall state: overwhelmed / stressed. AQA correct answer: "overwhelmed" — not "no money" alone.

Why it costs marks: AQA implied-meaning questions ask for the attitude or overall feeling, not a list of facts. Two negative statements together paint a bigger emotional picture.

❌ Common error: ¡Qué va! confused with a question about going somewhere

✅ Correct: ¡Qué va! = No way! / Of course not! — a fixed expression of strong disagreement. Nothing to do with going.

Why it costs marks: Fixed expressions like ¡qué va!, ¡ni hablar!, and ¡venga ya! have meanings that cannot be inferred from their individual words. Learning them as chunks is essential.
