1 · Aunque (although / even though) + indicative — concession with a known fact

When the conceded fact is real and known, aunque is followed by the indicative (the normal present tense you already know). This is the pattern required at GCSE:

Key point: aunque here is followed by indicative (son, publico, existe) because the fact is acknowledged as real. A different use — aunque + subjunctive — would signal doubt or a hypothetical scenario, but that is not required at GCSE. At Higher tier, learn the pattern aunque [indicative], [main clause] and use it confidently for concession.

2 · Connectives for balanced evaluation

A balanced essay or spoken answer moves through points on both sides. These five connectives signal structure to the examiner:
