Direction phrases let you tell someone how to get somewhere or describe where a building is. AQA Paper 1 (listening) and Paper 2 (reading) test these phrases — you may hear a sequence of instructions and have to follow them on a printed map.

⭐ AQA exam tip — directions on maps
Directions appear in AQA Paper 1 (listening) and Paper 2 (reading) — you may hear them and need to follow them on a map. Practise spotting enfrente de vs al lado de — they are frequently confused. Remember: enfrente de means directly opposite (facing you across the road or space), while al lado de means right next to (side by side). Getting these mixed up on a map task costs marks.
