Higher Advanced — Si pudiera + conditional (receptive only)
Si pudiera, viajaría por todo el mundo. — If I could, I would travel all around the world.
This is the si clause pattern: si + imperfect subjunctive → conditional. At GCSE you are expected to recognise this structure in reading and listening, but you are not required to produce it in writing or speaking. Do not attempt to construct si clauses in your own writing unless you are very confident — a mistake here costs AO3 marks.
📝 Paper 4 strategy — the four time-frame advantage
In Paper 4 (writing), using the conditional alongside the present, preterite, and future gives you coverage of four separate time frames — the maximum range rewarded by the highest mark-band descriptors.
