⚠️ Ortografía avanzada — Advanced Spelling Errors

These four errors are the most common Set B mistakes. Each one involves a pattern that sounds acceptable but is wrong on paper.

❌ Error 1: Writing k instead of qu

Written: kiero  →  ✅ quiero

Why it costs marks: The /k/ sound before e or i is always written qu in Spanish — there is no exception. k exists in Spanish only in borrowed words (kilómetro, kiosco). Any native Spanish /k/ + e/i = qu. This applies to all forms of querer: quiero, quieres, quiere, queremos, quieren.

❌ Error 2: Misspelling guitarra

Written: gitar  →  ✅ guitarra

Why it costs marks: Two separate patterns combine: (1) gu before i keeps g hard (the u is silent), and (2) double rr within a word. If you write gitar you lose one mark for the missing u (making the g sound wrong), and potentially another for the missing r. Remember the full form: gui-ta-rra.

❌ Error 3: Written reduction of -ado

Written: hablao  →  ✅ hablado

Why it costs marks: In natural speech, past participles ending in -ado are often pronounced as -ao. The AQA audio may sound like "hablao". The written form is always -ado — never reflect the spoken reduction in writing. This applies to: hablado, llegado, salido, comido, vivido and all past participles.

❌ Error 4: Writing y instead of ll in a verb

Written: yegar  →  ✅ llegar

Why it costs marks: Because ll and y sound identical, students sometimes guess y. The verb llegar (to arrive) begins with ll — this must be memorised. Other ll-verbs: llamar, llevar, llover, llenar. When in doubt about a verb, ll is the safer guess — the most common Spanish verbs with this initial sound use ll, not y.
