🎧 Set B — Dictación anotada — Annotated Dictation Sentences

Each sentence below tests two or more Set B patterns simultaneously — just as the AQA exam does. Use these for third-playback checking practice: read the sentence, identify the traps, then check against the annotations.

Sentence 1

Mis padres quieren que llegue a casa antes de las once.

My parents want me to get home before eleven.

  • quieren — qu before ie: the /k/ before e must be written qu, never "kieren"
  • que — again qu: this conjunction always qu, never "ke"
  • llegue — ll (not y) + subjunctive of llegar: g becomes gu before e to keep the hard g sound

Sentence 2

El guitarrista tocó una canción muy bonita.

The guitarist played a very beautiful song.

  • guitarrista — gu (silent u before i) + double rr: both patterns at once
  • tocó — preterite 3rd person accent on -ó: the accent marks past tense; toca (no accent) = plays (present)
  • canción — accent on -ió + n, meaning "song"; a high-frequency dictation word

Sentence 3

Ayer hablé con mi mejor amiga y quedamos para el sábado.

Yesterday I spoke with my best friend and we arranged to meet on Saturday.

  • Ayer — y (not ll): this adverb uses y; one of the core y-words to memorise
  • hablé — preterite 1st person accent on -é: hablé = I spoke; hable (no accent) = subjunctive
  • y — the conjunction "and" is always a single y: never "i", never "ll"
  • sábado — accent on the first syllable: SÁ-ba-do; without accent, the stress pattern changes
