📝 La tarea de dictado — The Dictation Task

The AQA Foundation dictation is 35 words long. You hear the passage three times. Each playback has a different purpose — use them strategically. Every wrong word costs you one mark, but the minimum score is 0, so never leave a word blank.
Playback Your strategy What to focus on
First playback Listen for meaning — do NOT write yet Understand the topic, tense, key nouns
Second playback Write as much as you can Spell carefully; catch accents and special characters
Third playback Check and complete gaps Verify word endings, accents, h-, ñ, b/v choices

⭐ The golden rule

Never leave a word blank. A word that is half-right (correct root, wrong accent) loses fewer marks than a blank. If you are unsure, write your best attempt — you may still score.

Foundation dictation: 35 words — each incorrect word = −1 mark, minimum score = 0.

How do you write ñ (eñe) correctly, and why does it matter?
ñ = the letter n with a tilde (~) on top. It is a completely different letter from n. año (year) ≠ ano (anus) — a very embarrassing error! mañana (tomorrow/morning) · español (Spanish) · señor (Mr) On an exam paper, write the tilde clearly above the n. Never substitute 'ny' or 'ni'.
Accents change meaning in Spanish. Give TWO pairs of examples.
canto (I sing, present) ≠ cantó (he/she sang, preterite) esta (this) ≠ está (is/he/she is) Missing the accent on cantó would cost you a mark — the spelling is wrong without it.
