At Higher tier, the future simple can express guessing or speculation in the present — not just plans. This earns grade 7+ marks.

  • ¿Dónde estará? = "Where can he be?" / "I wonder where he is."
  • Tendrá unos treinta años. = "He must be about thirty." / "He's probably around thirty."
  • Estará en casa. = "She's probably at home."

This construction — the futuro de probabilidad — uses the future tense to express an educated guess about the present moment. It is equivalent to "must be" or "I wonder" in English and signals genuine linguistic range to the examiner.
