🔍 Verbos irregulares — Irregular Stems

About ten common verbs use a modified stem in the future. The endings are always the same — only the stem changes. Learn the stem and you can conjugate all six forms instantly.

Group Infinitive → Stem yo form
Drop the vowel (add -dr-) tener → tendr- tendré
poder → podr- podré
querer → querr- querré
saber → sabr- sabré
haber → habr- habré
Shorten (drop -ec- or -ec-) hacer → har- haré
decir → dir- diré
D-insertion (replace vowel with d) salir → saldr- saldré
venir → vendr- vendré
poner → pondr- pondré
valer → valdr- valdré

⭐ Key insight

The endings are always the same — only the stem changes. If you know the stem, you can conjugate all 6 forms. For example, tendr- gives you: tendré, tendrás, tendrá, tendremos, tendréis, tendrán.

Note: querer → querr- has a double rr — querrá, not querá. And hacer → har- drops the -ec- entirely — haré, not hacerá.
