Schule und Beruf — Education and Future Plans

🎓 Schule und Beruf — Education and Future Plans

School, subjects and future careers are core AQA topics — you will be asked about them again and again across speaking, writing and reading tasks. This vocabulary lets you talk about what you study now and what you plan to do later. Knowing how to name your favourite subject with a reason, and how to say what job you want, is a guaranteed feature of the speaking and writing exams.

💡 Exam Tips & Common Errors

  • In the speaking exam, name your Lieblingsfach AND give a reason with weil — this earns extra communication marks.
  • Use Ich möchte ... werden to talk about your career plans — a reliable, examiner-friendly structure.
  • Remember that job nouns drop the article after werden: Ich möchte Lehrerin werden, not eine Lehrerin.

❌ Common error: Ich möchte ein Arzt werden.

✓ Correct: Ich möchte Arzt werden.

Why it costs marks: after werden with a profession, German uses NO article — Ich möchte Arzt werden, not ein Arzt. Adding ein is a calque from English ("become a doctor") and is marked as an error.
