💡 Exam Tips & Common Errors
- For opinions about hobbies, reach for gern + verb — it is the simplest, most reliable way to say what you like doing.
- Remember fernsehen splits: in a normal sentence you say ich sehe fern, not ich fernsehe.
- Add a frequency phrase (jeden Tag, am Wochenende, manchmal) for extra detail and more marks.
- Use lieber to compare two activities and show range: Ich spiele lieber Tennis als Fußball.
❌ Common error: Ich gern spiele Fußball.
✓ Correct: Ich spiele gern Fußball.
Why it costs marks: gern goes AFTER the verb, not before it. German keeps the verb in second position (V2), so gern sits just after it. Writing Ich gern spiele pushes the verb out of second place and breaks V2 — one of the most common free-time errors in AQA German.
