💡 Exam Tips & Common Errors

  • Learn every family noun with its article (der/die/das) and plural — you need them for every case.
  • Use sich verstehen mit + dative whenever you describe a relationship: Ich verstehe mich gut mit meinen Eltern.
  • Vary your personality adjectives in writing — two or three different ones with a reason lifts your communication mark.

❌ Common error: Ich verstehe gut mit meiner Schwester.

✓ Correct: Ich verstehe mich gut mit meiner Schwester.

Why it costs marks: sich verstehen is reflexive — it needs the reflexive pronoun mich. Dropping it (a calque from English "I get on well") is a common error that costs AO3 marks.
