📚 Key Facts About Momentum

p = m × v
Momentum (kg m/s) = mass (kg) × velocity (m/s)

Properties:

  • Unit: kg m/s (kilogram metres per second)
  • Momentum is a VECTOR — has direction
  • Direction = direction of velocity
  • Can be positive or negative (opposite directions)

Conservation of Momentum:

  • In a closed system (no external forces)
  • Total momentum BEFORE = Total momentum AFTER
  • Works for collisions AND explosions
