How to Induce a Voltage

Part of Electromagnetic Induction ยท Section 2 of 9

Key FactsUnit: MagnetismGCSE

Methods:

  • Move a conductor through a magnetic field
  • Move a magnet into/out of a coil
  • Change the magnetic field through a coil

Key requirement: The magnetic field through the conductor must be CHANGING. No change = no induced voltage.

To increase induced voltage:

  • Move the magnet/conductor faster
  • Use a stronger magnet
  • Use more turns on the coil

To reverse the direction of induced current:

  • Move in the opposite direction
  • Reverse the magnetic field (flip the magnet)

This key facts covers How to Induce a Voltage within Electromagnetic Induction for GCSE Physics. Revise Electromagnetic Induction in Magnetism for GCSE Physics with 18 exam-style questions and 12 flashcards. This is a high-frequency topic, so it is worth revising until the explanation feels precise and repeatable. It is section 2 of 9 in this topic. Use this key facts to connect the idea to the wider topic before moving on to questions and flashcards.
