🦠 Bacterial Cell Structure
Bacterial cells are prokaryotic and have some unique features:
🧬 Genetic Material
- Single circular chromosome (nucleoid)
- No nuclear membrane
- DNA freely suspended in cytoplasm
⭕ Plasmids
- Small rings of DNA
- Carry additional genes
- Can be passed between bacteria
- Often carry antibiotic resistance genes
🏃 Flagella
- Long, whip-like structures
- Used for movement/locomotion
- Can rotate like propellers
- Help bacteria move toward food or away from toxins
