Animal Organization Examples
Part of Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems — GCSE Biology
This diagram covers Animal Organization Examples within Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems for GCSE Biology. Organizational hierarchy from cells to organ systems, tissue types in plants and animals, structure-function relationships, and system interactions It is section 3 of 14 in this topic. Focus on the labels, the relationships between parts, and the explanation that turns the diagram into an exam-ready answer.

🐾 Animal Organization Examples
Example 1: From Muscle Cell to Movement
- Muscle Cells: Specialized cells that can contract (remember from Topic 1 - they have many mitochondria for energy and special proteins for contraction)
- Muscle Tissue: Thousands of muscle cells bundled together, all contracting in the same direction
- Heart (Organ): Muscle tissue + nervous tissue (for coordination) + connective tissue (for structure) + epithelial tissue (lining chambers)
- Circulatory System: Heart + blood vessels + blood, all working together to transport materials
Example 2: The Digestive System
- Epithelial Cells: Specialized for absorption with features like microvilli (from Topic 1)
- Intestinal Tissue: Epithelial cells organized into a tissue specialized for absorption
- Small Intestine (Organ): Intestinal tissue + muscle tissue (for movement) + nervous tissue (for control) + blood tissue (for transport)
- Digestive System: Mouth + stomach + intestines + liver + pancreas, all working together to break down and absorb food
Key Animal Tissue Types
| Tissue Type | Function | Key Features | Example Locations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muscle Tissue | Movement and contraction | Contractile proteins, many mitochondria | Heart, skeletal muscles, intestinal walls |
| Nervous Tissue | Coordination and control | Long projections, electrical signals | Brain, spinal cord, nerves |
| Epithelial Tissue | Protection and absorption | Tightly packed cells, may have specializations | Skin, intestine lining, lung lining |
| Connective Tissue | Support and structure | Strong fibers, protective matrix | Bones, cartilage, tendons, blood |
