🔗 How Systems Work Together

No organ system works in isolation - they all depend on each other for the organism to survive.

Animal System Interactions:

  • Digestive + Circulatory: Digested nutrients are absorbed into the blood and transported to all cells
  • Respiratory + Circulatory: Oxygen from lungs is carried by blood to all tissues; CO₂ is carried back to lungs
  • Nervous + Muscular: Brain controls muscle contractions for coordinated movement
  • Excretory + Circulatory: Kidneys filter waste from blood to maintain chemical balance

Plant System Interactions:

  • Root system + Shoot system: Roots absorb water/minerals for leaves; leaves make food for roots
  • Transport + Photosynthetic systems: Water transported to leaves enables photosynthesis; sugars transported to all parts
  • Gas exchange + Photosynthesis: Stomata allow CO₂ in for photosynthesis and O₂ out as waste
