Worked Example 2: Trapezium
Find the area of a trapezium with parallel sides 8 cm and 12 cm, and height 5 cm.
Step 1 Write the formula
Area = ½ × (a + b) × h
Step 2 Add the parallel sides
a + b = 8 + 12 = 20
Step 3 Apply the formula
Area = ½ × 20 × 5
Area = ½ × 100 = 50 cm²
