What is Area?

Area measures how much SPACE a shape covers - like how many square tiles would fit inside it. If you're painting a wall or laying carpet, you need to know the area! We measure area in SQUARE units (cm², m², etc.)

Visual: Area Formulas

Diagram showing area formulas for 5 shapes: Rectangle (length × width), Triangle (½ × base × height), Parallelogram (base × perpendicular height), Trapezium (½(a+b) × height), Circle (πr²). Each shape shows labelled dimensions.

Remember: Height must be PERPENDICULAR (at 90°) to the base
