The Opposite of Direct

The Opposite of Direct

If 4 workers can build a wall in 6 days, how long would 8 workers take? More workers = less time! When one thing increases and the other decreases in proportion, that's INVERSE proportion. The product of the two values always stays the same.

Common Mistakes

  • WRONG: Using y = kx for inverse (that's direct!) (Should be y = k/x)
  • WRONG: More workers take MORE time (Inverse means opposite!)
  • RIGHT: Check logic - does your answer make sense?
