Worked Example 2

Find the exact value of 2 sin 45° cos 45°.

Solution

From the exact values table:

sin 45° = √2/2

cos 45° = √2/2

2 sin 45° cos 45° = 2 × (√2/2) × (√2/2)

= 2 × (√2 × √2)/(2 × 2)

= 2 × 2/4

= 4/4 = 1

Quick Recall Flashcards

Sin Pattern
sin 0°=0, sin 30°=1/2, sin 45°=√2/2, sin 60°=√3/2, sin 90°=1. Pattern: √n/2 for n=0,1,2,3,4
Cos Pattern
Cos is sin BACKWARDS. cos θ = sin(90°-θ). So cos 30° = sin 60°, etc.
