The Whiteboard vs. The Textbook

Imagine you're studying for your GCSEs. You use a whiteboard for working out problems - it's quick to write on and erase, perfect for temporary work. But when you turn off the light and leave, everything disappears! You also have a printed textbook - you can't write in it (well, you shouldn't!), but all the information stays there permanently, even when you close it. This is exactly how RAM (the whiteboard - fast but temporary) and ROM (the textbook - permanent but unchangeable) work in your computer!
