Which is better value: 250g of butter for £2.40 or 400g for £3.60?
Step 1 Calculate price per gram for first option
250g for £2.40
Price per gram = £2.40 ÷ 250 = £0.0096 per gram
Or 0.96p per gram
Step 2 Calculate price per gram for second option
400g for £3.60
Price per gram = £3.60 ÷ 400 = £0.009 per gram
Or 0.9p per gram
Final Compare and decide
0.9p per gram < 0.96p per gram
400g for £3.60 is better value
